Join Wendy Swanson, yoga teacher, acupuncturist, nature lover and travel enthusiast, and Kathleen McIntyre, nature therapy and adventure guide, embodiment coach, forest ecologist, and educator, on an adventure in stunning Costa Rica. You can expect to be guided to align with the mystical rhythms of the ocean and the jungle. We will embody and practice the wisdom that is yoga and pranayama (breathwork). We will listen to the sacredness within and around us clearing our path to greater freedom, joy, health and peace.
Wendy has been taking students to the Bodhi Tree since 2019. “The resort was spectacular. We are less than a 10 minute, easy and safe walk, to the beach (which also happens to have some of the best surfing in the all the world). The resort is elegant yet with all the natural goodness of being literally in the jungle. The howler monkeys live in the tree tops along with some of the most exotic and beautiful birds I have ever seen. There is a salt water pool with plenty of comfortable lounge chairs around to relax, read or enjoy new found friends. It really is a lovely place, which is why I am returning!”
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. The Bodhi Tree offers an array of hot, and refreshing cold soups; an excellent buffet of veggies and salads; organic chicken, fish and vegan options. Bodhi Tree can also cater to any palette as a personalized service to suit all your special dietary needs. Organic wine and artisanal beer are available for purchase with your dinner. You are also able to purchase fresh juice and light healthy snacks throughout the day.
**Please note that you need to be comfortable with walking up and down small hills***

“This was the most amazing trip I have taken. Unexpected emotions surfaced, connected with kind and compassionate people (especially the leaders) and was guided to be present and experience this magical place.”
– Melissa
“This retreat exceeded my expectations. Wendy and Kathleen are inspiring, thoughtful and fun teachers and guides! They really challenged each of us to connect with nature and with each other in profound ways. I came away from this retreat feeling both centered and truly relaxed. I would recommend this to anyone looking for deep self-reflection, adventure, and deep connection to nature.”
– Alicia
“It was great, I enjoyed all the nature activities and yoga classes, the food was amazing, the activities were fun, the nature there was just beautiful, and the locals were friendly. I truly enjoyed the nature connection activities and will try to implement them in my daily life :-)”
– Jackie
“This was a beautiful experience in many ways: the friendships made, the natural environment, the personal growth opportunities (thanks to our amazing leaders), general relaxation, the wonderful Costa Rican people, the resort itself, etc.”
–Anne
“This retreat was truly restorative. I am so grateful for the gift of slowing down and finding time and space to truly listen to what the universe was saying to my heart. I was inspired to carve out more space for stillness in my daily life and to truly tune into the messages I am receiving.”
– Kim
The leaders kept the group welcoming, open and safe for all that wanted to share. The retreat did not focus on one thing, you kept things moving. Yoga, hiking, talking, eating….This was my first time going on any type of women’s retreat so my friends were so curious about what it was and how I liked it. I only had wonderful things to say, such a good group of women, perfect weather, fun activities, great introduction to yoga. Left me with such an appreciation for nature and all that it does for us. Thank you!
This retreat provided the most amazing space and energy to recharge and connect with myself and a group of supportive and loving women. It was well-designed, well-run, and incredibly inspirational. Wendy and Kathleen have mad skills and even more love and passion for what they do that infuses every element of this short but powerful two days.
“A week at the Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort with Wendy and Kathleen was one of the most amazing weeks ever! The week was filled with opportunities to relax and nourish through yoga and healthy food, meet wonderful people, and explore and embrace nature. The boat trip was a highlight seeing playful dolphins guide our boat, jumping into the blue Pacific for a swim, passing by multiple sea turtles and following two humpback whales who blew spouts and flapped tails! The resort is so beautiful as are the beaches, the sunsets and the Costa Rican people. I highly recommend this retreat with these wonderful ladies!”
“Wonderful guidance of deeper inner heart & nature connections! Wendy & Kathleen very synced towards communicating openness of body, mind & spirit allowing oneself to truly let go of negative emotions that we sometimes hold onto unawaringly! The Nature meditations & mandala crystal healings rocked! I felt & still feel the spaciousness of lightness & healing these two Goddesses radiate so innately”
“Two loving, kind, knowledgeable individuals who will do everything possible to guide and help one grow. The whole experience was incredible beyond verbal description.”

According to the Travel.State.Gov website Costa Rica is level 2 which means exercise caution. For reference other places that are also a level 2 are: Denmark, Germany, France, Turks & Caicos, and The Bahamas to name just a few. Crime is mostly in the larger cities like San Jose. Nosara is a place that many tourists visit and Americans have taken up residence there.
Costa Rica has 2 seasons: rainy and dry. Winter is the dry time where it does not rain. The days are sunny and warm, think 86-90 degrees and the nights around 70-76 degrees. All of the bedrooms have AC but otherwise we will be outside enjoying the glorious warm weather.
There are medical services in Nosara as many Americans have made this paradise their home. For a large hospital you would need to travel to Liberia where the airport is located. There are emergency vehicles servicing Nosara. We also recommend travel insurance that has medical coverage.

Yes. Nosara, while located right on the Pacific Ocean, is quite hilly. The resort does have stairs that you will need to be comfortable taking a few times per day.
We have you! You don’t need to worry about your yoga skills. All the yoga taught will have lots of options for you to do what is best for you.
It is always great to know a few words in a country’s native language but if all you know are hola and gracias you will be fine. Most Costa Ricans who have customer service jobs speak wonderful English. Wendy speaks no Spanish and has had great experiences with communication in Costa Rica.
No. The US Dollar is accepted almost everywhere. You may receive your change in Colón but this can simply be used later. It is good to have cash as the tuk tuks (Costa Rican cabs) only take cash and some excursions are cash only. Every room has a safe for you to keep your valuables. Many places do accept credit cards as well. Call your credit card company BEFORE traveling internationally to let them know that you may use your card in Costa Rica. Most credit and debit card companies have high security alerts now.
No, no and no. There is nothing special that you need to enter or leave Costa Rica except of course your passport.
We will arrange a group shuttle. You will pay the transportation fees through the resort. You do NOT pay the airport shuttle driver directly. For a shared shuttle you can expect to pay between $40-$50 each way. If you need your own private shuttle the fee is $150 each way. The trip is about 2 ½ hours and the driver will make a stop for everyone to use the bathroom. It is a beautiful drive with lots of opportunities to take in the landscape of Costa Rica.
It depends on how many extra excursions you plan on doing or if you wish to take surfing lessons. The resort does NOT have ATM machines so best to bring more $ than you think that you will need. Remember you can store $ and other valuable things in your safe. We recommend between $350-$600.
You will need small bills to tip the following people:
All drivers & staff who carry your bags to your room. When we kayak or do any excursions we will tip the lead person who will then share that with their full crew. Bring plenty of $1’s & $5’s. While Costa Rica is abundant in many ways we still have much wealth in comparison. Please tip generously. For example: your airport shuttle driver tip between $10-$15. Kayak guides around $10-$15 total to be split amongst the crew. Local drivers who drive us to excursions or our night out for dinner: $2-$5. All tipping is optional and at your discretion.
Wonderful! You will have the chance to make new friends and build community. We usually have between 25-40% of our retreat participants who literally do not know anyone. You will be in great company. You’ll make new friends quickly AND we will support you every step of the way.
There will be time throughout the retreat for you to just be. Each day has some free time woven in. In addition, Wednesday is our free day where you get to create your own adventure, which may look like sitting quietly by the pool with your favorite book.
