Italian Countryside Yoga Retreat

“Savoring Life through Yoga, Nature and Old World Charm”

Saturday, April 10th – 17th 2021 - UPDATE

Join Wendy Swanson, yoga teacher, acupuncturist, healer, nature lover and travel enthusiast on an adventure to the countryside of the peaceful Sabine Hills just one hour north of Rome. We will practice yoga asana 1-2 times per day with a mix of vinyasa/ flow, deep stretch, restorative, yin and yoga nidra. We will learn simple meditation and breathing techniques. We will hike, explore the countryside and take in the charm and history of central Italy. We will practice, eat healthy amazing food, find wholeness, remember who we are meant to be, rejuvenate, adventure and deeply rest in an environment that is welcoming and magical!

Magical Italy

Prepare to be completely enchanted every day by the gorgeous rolling hills of the Umbrian countryside during your spring yoga retreat in Italy. The In Sabina estate is located in the heart of the Sabine hills, only an hour from Rome – but a world away from the hustle of the city. Two beautifully restored 17th century stone buildings overlook an incredible panorama of olive groves and fruit trees, as well as lush gardens, a pond and swimming pool. There are three terraces with stunning views for relaxing and watching the amazing sunsets every night.

Within the grounds next to the olive groves there is a gorgeous and spacious open-air yoga platform designed by the architect Marco Antonini, with stunning & panoramic views of the rolling Italian landscape. There is also a second indoor converted yoga room, with large windows overlooking the hills & trees.

The surrounding area is rich in medieval Italian history as well as natural beauty. We will visit Torri, an ancient village with barely 1000 residents only 3km away, and the charming hilltop town of Casperia, only 10 minutes drive from the yoga retreat center.

The setting is rustic but magical, peaceful and quiet. An ideal place for spiritual practice.

Accommodations at In Sabina

The rooms are designed in a simple, natural style, with a combination of new and antique furnishings. Four of the bedrooms have private bathrooms and the four rooms share a bathroom between two rooms.

Most of the rooms are double occupancy with a very limited number of single rooms.

There are also three single occupancy yurts with an outdoor shower and shared indoor bathroom facility. The yurts can be warm in the day but sometimes cold at night. There is no electricity inside – just simple solar lighting. They do not suit everyone only those who like “comfortable camping.”

Food

You will be served fresh, healthy, incredibly delicious organic vegetarian food.

In Sabine can offer gluten free, dairy free and vegan options as needed. We will eat out at a local restaurant on Friday night (this meal is not included).

About the Retreat

“A good combination of exercises, conversation and practices around mind-body connection with focus on the “being” and creating a better understanding of the ‘self’.”

“I’m at a crossroads in life and was cautiously optimistic the retreat weekend would be my launching pad to be more centered, in the moment, and open. I walked away from the retreat with all expectations blown out of the water. Such a wonderful community of people. The leaders were all warm and welcoming and each topic / exercise was exactly what I needed. A highly worthwhile investment in you!!!!!”

Daily Program

Depending on the weather we will either practice yoga on the magnificent wooden yoga platform overlooking the lush valley or in the serene and tranquil indoor yoga space with views over the hills.

Morning Practices:  Our morning asana will be a breath-centered flow practice to help us move our energy and awaken our senses. We will practice simple yet powerful meditation and pranayama (breathing) techniques. Some mornings may include soul writing/ journaling, nature connection techniques, group exercises, and soulful introspection.

Afternoon/Evening Practices & Excursions:   Early Afternoon will be a time for YOU (nap, walk, visit the small town nearby, get a massage, etc…)  Here are some of the optional excursions: Day trip to medieval Oriveto, Hot Springs trip (https://bagnaccio.it/), hike through countryside, guided tour of local towns, onsite cooking class, oliveoil & wine tasting with Friday’s dinner out.

Late Afternoon/Early Evening:  These practices will be restorative of nature with some yoga nidra as well. We will have one (possibly two afternoons) off from yoga to explore Italy (excursions are optional as there is a small additional charge).

About the Retreat

“I thought there was a great balance of structured and free time. The activities (both classes and excursions) included a good variety.
